Choose what to block
Blue Guard groups its rules into four categories. Each can be turned on or off, and the setting applies to both Safari blocking and app-wide blocking.
Change a category
- Open Blue Guard.
- Go to Settings.
- Under Filters, turn each category on or off.
Changes are compiled into a new rule list and handed to Safari straight away. Reload any pages you already have open.
The categories
- Ads. Advertising networks and the requests pages make to fill ad slots.
- Trackers. Analytics and profiling services that record what you do across sites.
- Social widgets. Embedded share buttons, comment boxes, and login widgets, which report the pages they appear on whether or not you interact with them.
- Annoyances. Cookie banners, newsletter overlays, and similar interruptions.
Limits
A change that would take the list past Safari's rule ceiling is refused rather than partly applied, and Blue Guard tells you the change did not reach Safari. Turning a category off is always accepted, because it makes the list smaller.
Turning off every category leaves nothing to block. Blue Guard stays installed and the extension stays enabled, but Safari has no rules to apply.
Categories do not apply to allowed sites. A site you have allowed is exempt from all four.
What is stored
Your category choices are stored on your device and nowhere else. Privacy and data covers the rest of what the app keeps.
